Marvelous Mistake

Well, we got our first set of overnight "guests" today. One of the shareholders arrived, along w/ one his employee's, to stay for a month, to work on our cabin! So, I'm officially on staff today as cook. So, I made wonderful Molasses cookies today. I was going to take a picture & post it, but I let Ben take it of me holding the cookie (and in my new apron) and I look like a very large, demented damsel with a cow pie (the cookies are big, dark & kinda cowpie-ish looking). So, you will NOT be getting to see that pic.

The biggest surprise of the day, however, was the mistake!! Last night I made pizza, and wanted to make dough from scratch. But, the first batch ended up more like batter than dough & obviously wouldn't rise. So, I dumped it & started over. The 2nd batch was better (mostly because I added 50% more flour) but I left it an hour (and it's only supposed to take 30 minutes) and STILL no rising. So, we improvised w/ hamburger buns for our crust. (Which actually worked out pretty well in-and-of itself, btw! It was kinda like personal pan pizza's for everyone). Anyway, when we got done w/ dinner and I looked in the bowl, it had finally started to rise. So, I stuck it in the cooler & this a.m., took it out & let it rise awhile. Then, I plopped it in a bread pan & baked it. I got the BEST compliments on my "Artisan Garlic & Herb" Bread! They pretty much ate the whole loaf. Crazy, huh?

The 2-man crew came in & decided to pull the rest of the stuff out of the cabin, so it's now totally bare in there - they even blew out a lot of the little cache's of insulation. So, now it's a totally bare, big empty room. I took a pic but it won't load tonight so you'll have to wait until tomorrow!
