Isn't the hearth going to be neat? This is all rock that the volunteers brought up from the river to build the hearth with. It should be finished by the end of Tuesday (this pic was taken Monday eve). And, the outlets & light switches are being wired today also! I've been working on paint colors for an accent color & it's looking like a reddish color will be ok. (How boring am I? I'm sure you all are riveted to a discussion of paint colors on my wall! haha)
I made Shepherds Pie Sunday night for dinner to use up some leftovers - or at least that's what it was supposed to be. It turned out more like running stew w/ cheese on top. The last 3 times i made it, I didn't put in enough gravy/liquid so it was dry - I kind of overcompensated this time! So, tonight is a roast chicken dinner with fresh rolls, fresh cookies, rice pilaf, and cherry cheesecake. Hopefully I can make up for some of my disasters lately!
Jennet was kind enough to email me a great basic mix to use for many things (biscuits, & lots of other things) so I made that up today & made biscuits also. And, Sue & I have been discussing some of Mom's old recipes & different things we remember her cooking. Susan always loved her rice pudding (I think we found that recipe today) and the cookies I made today are identical to ones Mom used to make, but we can't remember what she called hers. Mine are "Melting Madness" I think... they're very puffy & soft & have nuts.
Well, that's about it for today. Other than it's been COLD here today & windy! Feels like winter!
