Local Wildlife

Well, here you'll see a couple photos of our local "wildlife". The bunnys are quickly becoming our favorite past time to watch. They really are quite funny & all have their own personalties. The one who's on Sentinal (the little grey-spotted one) is my favorite. I call him "Peter" (yes, I know.. real original).

And, we have Moose car toppers, as you can see. They'll go ANYWHERE! :) This particular moose is right by the house many mornings. They also like to eat the hay in the manger with the horses. Well, not exactly WTIH the horses. The horses stand to the side & watch while pretending to NOT watch. It's fairly humorous.

Speaking of local wildlife - did any of you see the recent article in the paper under the "Montana Outdoor Digest"? (at least that's what it's called in the Bozeman Chronicle - amusing in itself since the "Montana Outdoor Digest", located in the MT local paper mind you, is all of 2"x3".. you'd think they could find more to include). ANYWHO... this recent article caused not only amusement, but also raised some serious questions. Here is what the article said:
KALISPELL - MAN CATCHES RECORD PYGMY FISH (now doesn't the title itself raise some questions?)
State wildlife officials say a Kalispell man has caught a state record pygmy whitefish. The Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks says Russ Geldrich caught a 0.36-pound (5.76 ounce), 9.84-inch pygmy in Little Bitterroot Lake on Feb. 13 while fishing for kokanee. The previous mark was 0.23 pounds held by three anglers. Fisheries biologist Mark Deleray certified the record. The pygmy whitefish is a native fish that lives near the bottom of northwest Montana lakes such as Little Bitterroot, Ashley, and Flathead.

Ok, so here's the questions we had:
1. Would you even know what you caught if you caught one of these?
2. Would you want to ACKNOWLEDGE you held the record for a PYGMY whitefish?
3. How big can a pygmy get before it's not a pygmy?
4. How would you know you had caught the record pygmy? (I mean really.. 0.36 pounds?)
5. The previous record was shared by 3 anglers? Does that mean they each get credit for 0.076 ounces? And again.. would you admit this?

Well, that's it for today's pics & comments. Perhaps tomorrow I'll feel ambitious enough to retype the entire article written by dogs regarding animal protection in CA. :)
